India’s strong information technology industry is helping to pull in international meetings, conferences and exhibitions catering to this sector. This includes the World Wide Web Congress 2011, which will be held at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre.

The event’s PCO, New Delhi-based Conferences & Incentives Management managing director, Mr Prasant Saha, said: “We will be using Web 2.0, second life.com and other online sources for marketing and execution of the congress.”

Between 1,500 and 2,000 delegates from 100 countries are expected to attend.

He told TTGmice: “The founder of the World Wide Web, Mr Tim Lee Bernes, will be one of the keynote speakers.”

Mr Saha said he did not foresee “any challenges regarding hotels or flight seats at the moment”.

Hyderabad’s new airport is scheduled to open at the end of March. The city has “more than 1,250 hotel rooms in the five-star category, with many new hotels expected to be launched by 2011”.

The congress is an annual international academic conference on the future direction of the World Wide Web.

It began in 1994 and is organised by US-based Worldwide Web Consortium. It has been held in the US and Europe.

It moved to Asia for the first time in 2001 in Hong Kong. China is the venue for this year.
